For example, if a parent doesn't want a child to touch something, the parent will just say, \"Hey! Don't touch it!\" and \"No!\" and \"Stop\", the child will hear many of these \"No! and \"No! In fact, this will often make children feel that they have done something wrong, which in turn will undermine their confidence and make them avoid doing things in the future.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">As a parent, what can you do to make your child follow the <\/span><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">rules without undermining his self-confidence? What kind of talking skills can <\/span><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">parents use?<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">For example, if a child is angry and his face is red, we can <\/span><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">use the following \"three-step\" approach.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><b style=\"font-size: inherit;text-indent: -0.15pt;letter-spacing: 0.03125em\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:13.0pt;,serif\">Part I: Say How He Feels<\/span><\/b><br><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:13.0pt;,serif\">\"Mommy and Daddy see how angry you are ......\"<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:13.0pt;,serif\">\"Look at your red face. ......\"<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:13.0pt;,serif\">Parents can try to help their children say how they feel. This is the first and most important step.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><b style=\"font-size: inherit;text-indent: -0.15pt;letter-spacing: 0.03125em\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:13.0pt;,serif\">Part 2: Setting boundaries<\/span><\/b><br><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:13.0pt;,serif\">When a child has a temper tantrum and may hit someone, parents should immediately set a line: \"Okay, we can\u2019t hurt others. Help him to set a compliance line.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:13.0pt;,serif\">Part 3: Arranging a platform for diversion<\/span><\/b><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size:13.0pt;,serif\">If the child has already hit someone, the parent should arrange a platform for the child to channel the anger.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">For example, the parent can say, \"Oh! I see you are so <\/span><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">angry that your face is red and you want to hit someone! Why don't you show <\/span><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">Daddy how angry you are? \"Why don't you hit this shark doll?\"<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">Maybe the child will say, \"Yes, okay! and then hit the <\/span><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">shark doll. At this point, the parent should tell the child, \"Oh, Daddy is <\/span><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">really angry to see you.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0cm;text-indent: -0.1pt;line-height: normal\"><br><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">By allowing the child to express his or her emotions, the <\/span><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">child will understand that when he or she has negative emotions, they won\u2019t be <\/span><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">accepted by the parents.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.05pt;text-align: justify;text-indent: -0.15pt;line-height: normal\"><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">If parents use the above three steps, not only will they <\/span><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">accept their children's negative emotions, but they will also not condone their <\/span><span style=\", serif;font-size: 13pt;text-indent: -0.15pt;font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-primary-font-weight );letter-spacing: 0.03125em\">misbehavior, and most importantly, children will learn to follow the rules.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/h6>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As a parent, what can you do to make your child follow the rules without undermining his self-confidence?
